While vinyl siding is still the most common siding choice for residential use, fiber cement siding is gaining in popularity as more homeowners recognize the product’s unique benefits.
Fiber cement siding is made from a mixture of Portland cement, cellulose, and water that has been steam heated and formed into planks. The resulting fiber cement siding is durable, attractive, and low maintenance. Fiber cement siding is also fire and insect resistant.
Another advantage of fiber cement siding is that fiber cement is not as sensitive to heat as vinyl siding. This means that fiber cement siding can be painted in darker colors than vinyl siding. This gives you more fiber cement color options for your home. Fiber cement siding is also very resistant to the harmful effects of the sun’s UV rays.
Each fiber cement siding manufacturer offers its own fiber cement siding colors. If you can’t find the color you want with one manufacturer, check out the options offered by their competitors.
Some manufacturers offer specific color choices geared to specific regions in the United States. For example, the James Hardie ColorPlus Palette system breaks the continental United States into seven distinct regions and then offers color choices that have been optimized for each region’s geography and housing styles. In most regions at least 20 fiber cement colors are available.
Even with all the color options available from the manufacturers, if you still can’t find the perfect fiber cement color for your home, you have other options. Some companies sell fiber cement siding that has been primed, but not painted. This allows you to have the siding painted to your exact color specifications. The siding contractor can do the painting before the siding is installed or you could do it yourself after installation.
