Brick veneer siding has long been a popular replacement for real brick siding because it doesn’t weigh nearly as much as real brick, and walls don’t need to be engineered to carry the extra weight load of real brick. Brick veneer siding is made from real brick that is sliced thinly and laid out in panels that are easily applied to a wall.
Because it’s made from real brick, though, brick veneer siding is expensive. A cost-friendly alternative is vinyl brick siding.
Three Reasons to Choose Vinyl Brick Siding
Vinyl brick siding is made from polypropylene and imitates the look of real brick and brick veneer. But it has several advantages over both.
- Vinyl brick siding is much lighter than real brick or brick veneer.
- It is much less expensive than both materials.
- It is easy to install. Vinyl brick siding, like regular brick siding, comes in panels that interlock and are pretty easy to install. You can hire a siding contractor, but it really doesn’t take much chops to do the job yourself.
Vinyl brick siding is sold in several different styles and color choices to match different architectural styles, from Colonial white to used brick and new brick patterns.
The material enjoys the benefits of vinyl siding products–durability, resistance to water, rot, and insect infestation, but it’s not porous like brick veneer siding. When properly installed, water won’t seep behind the siding like it can with real brick products due to the porous nature of the stone.
Vinyl brick siding is a good option for cost-conscious remodelers. You can have the look of real brick at a fraction of the price, and the material stands up to all but the closest inspection as a real brick product.
