In vinyl siding, as in anything, you get what you pay for. While all types of vinyl siding are attractive, durable, and cost efficient, premium vinyl siding does offer some advantages not available in the economy or standard grades of vinyl siding.
Here are some of the reasons you may want to spend a little more and upgrade to premium vinyl siding for your project:
Premium Vinyl Siding Offers More Color Choices
More color selections are available in premium vinyl siding than in either standard grade or economy grade vinyl siding. Economy grade vinyl siding has the fewest choices with some brands offering only three or four color options. Standard grade vinyl siding typically offers about a dozen or so colors. Contrast that with the up to 30 vinyl siding colors available in some brands of premium grade vinyl siding, and you can see that going with premium grade vinyl siding can give you the best chance of finding the perfect vinyl siding color for your home.
Premium Vinyl Siding Typically Uses Longer Planks
Some premium vinyl siding choices offer planks up to 30% longer than standard size planks. The longer the vinyl siding plank, the fewer attachment points are noticeable, and the more the siding looks like natural wood planks.
Premium Vinyl Siding Offers a Wider Variety of Siding Types and Styles
Some vinyl siding styles and types, such as board and batten siding, or cedar siding shakes, may only be available in premium vinyl siding lines. If you want the benefits of these types of specialized vinyl siding options you will usually need to upgrade to the manufacturer’s premium vinyl siding line.
Premium Vinyl Siding Planks Are Sturdier
The planks used in premium vinyl siding are typically thicker than standard planks. This increased thickness can make premium vinyl siding stiffer and more durable than other vinyl siding grades. The stiffer vinyl boards are also typically more resistant to drooping or sagging than thinner vinyl siding.
Insulated Vinyl Siding is Only Offered in Premium Vinyl Siding Lines
Insulated vinyl siding is only available in manufacturer’s premium siding lines. If you want the energy savings and noise reduction offered by insulated vinyl siding you should upgrade to the premium grade.
Obviously, premium vinyl siding isn’t the only choice, and other grades of vinyl siding may meet your needs. Just make sure to consider the advantages when deciding if the extra up-front cost of premium vinyl siding is for you.
