One of the advantages of vinyl siding is that it can last a very long time. Vinyl siding is more durable–and also more weather and fade resistant than traditional wood siding. And, because vinyl siding doesn’t need to be painted, that means the vinyl siding colors you pick now may be on your home for decades.
This longevity makes it especially important to carefully consider your vinyl siding colors when planning your project. Remember, you’ll live with your choice for years.
So, here are some tips for picking vinyl siding colors.
1. Pick a color you like – While this seems obvious, some people do overlook it and just pick a color they can “live with.” Remember you’ll be looking at your home practically every day, and a color you don’t really love now can drive you really crazy in a few years.
2. Make sure the color works with your home – You should consider the overall architecture and design of your home when considering vinyl siding colors. Traditional classically styled homes generally work better with traditional colors such as white. A more modern home design usually allows you to pick from a larger color palette.
3. Blend in with the neighborhood - Pick a color that works with the other homes in the neighborhood. You don’t have to use the exact same color as the other homes, but by picking a complementary color you can help maintain the overall aesthetic of your community.
4. Use color accents wisely – You can brighten up the overall look by carefully selecting the accent colors for your trim, shutters, railings, or other architectural details. These are great places for a bit of brightness. Make sure your accent colors work with your main color choice.
If you have problems finding a vinyl siding color that works you may want to consider a different line of vinyl siding or possibly even a different manufacturer’s brand of siding. In general, the less expensive siding options offer fewer vinyl siding color choices than the premium siding brands.
